The summer has arrived and with the shedding of all those sweaters and coats comes the shorts and swimsuits.
Even if you can’t get behind the “your body is a temple” mantra, let the thought of another cupcake motivate you. Luckily New York does its best to help you along your fitness journey.
Yoga at Bryant Park:
Ready to stretch? Bryant Park offers free classes to all who wish to join. They’re offered Tuesday and Thursday 10am and 6pm. Bring your own mat! More info here.
Namaste at Nine Yoga at Lululelmon:
For a more upscale yoga experience it doesn’t get more green-goddess than Lululemon. Mats are provided, branded of course, and you can find the dates here.
Shape Up NYC:
For more free classes check out NYC Parks list here. They have a range of classes in all five boroughs (yes, New York does extend outside of Manhattan), and all are completely free to take. Simply drop by and join in; whether it’s Zumba or pilates they’ve got you covered.
Lap Swimming:
Do you have a competitive edge? If so, Lap Swimming might be right up your alley. Participants who swim 25 miles or more over the summer will receive a free t-shirt and prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female distance swimmers at each pool program. Register online here.
Running:
This is the perfect time to dust off those sneakers. You know in a few weeks it’s going to start getting sticky! Start running now so by the time the humidity begins to rise you’ll be ready for the sweat. Central Park is always a failsafe option with dedicated paths and plenty of running routes. Plus, the scenery is stunning at this time of year.
