Happy Fall y’all! YES – the best time of year is here, and now it’s official! The leaves are changing colors, the air is getting crisp, and there are so many delicious flavors that are popping up. Apples, pumpkin, and plenty of delicious spices. While some of you may be baking, some of you might just want a sinfully aromatic home. Here are a few natural DIY ways to hack your way into divine “home” smells with everyday ingredients.
Simmer Cinnamon
In a small pot, cover 3-5 sticks of cinnamon with water and simmer. Once your house house smells all warm and cinnamon-y, switch off the burner, and remove the cinnamon sticks. Let the sticks dry on a paper towel, and be sure to use them a few more times before they lose their potency. (They’ve got a lot of flavor!)
Make lemon and rosemary “pot pourri”
In a pot, simmer a cup of water, a sliced lemon (with the rind still on), 2 or 3 springs of rosemary (only fresh will do) and a couple of teaspoons vanilla, or a whole vanilla bean. The aroma fills the house with a light, clean, and warm scent.
Craft homemade mulled wine
In a large pot, pour 1 bottle of red wine (anything will do here, but you may not want to cook the good stuff!) over all your other ingredients. Simmer on low for about 1 hour, with the lid on. Strain through a fine sieve into a thermos or pitcher with lid. Pour a large mug for yourself. Cheers!
