Take the Cake: Bite-sized Inspiration for the Savvy Baker

Have you ever seen Lavender grow anywhere besides the South of France?

We hadn’t either! That is, until we discovered Lavender by the Bay in Long Island’s North Fork.

Lavender by the Bay, a family owned and operated lavender farm since 2002, is located in East Marion, NY. Their story actually starts in France. We love it so much because it’s local, it smells amazing, and it tastes fantastic too!

The Rozenbaum Family, the visionaries behind Lavender by the Bay, brought together their agricultural and art interests to create a beautiful lavender farm on the North Fork. The Lavender by the Bay story begins as a small family hobby that turned into the 17 acre farm with over 80,000 plants that is Lavender by the Bay today.

If you visit the farm on Long Island (which you should definitely do!), you can walk through the fields of lavender and smell the intoxicating aroma. On the farm, you’ll find a farm store with a variety of lavender products and the artfully designed sachets from Susan Rozenbaum and her team of lavender bee’s.

To get a full lavender experience, visit the North Fork farm (especially during the summer bloom typically around June/July) and purchase all your lavender essentials at the farm store, online, and at Green Markets across New York City. The farms takes pride in the high-quality lavender grown there.

We’re just excited you get to enjoy the benefits of this premium lavender!

Getting lavender flavor just right is not easy. After all, who wants to eat a cupcake that tastes like soap?! But, with enough testing, we were able to get the flavor for our Lavender Vanilla Bean Cupcakes JUST right.

The lavender flavor had to be subtle. So we infused milk with it. It’s kinda like making cereal milk with flowers!

The result was beautifully subtle, light, fluffy, pastel colored frosting atop vanilla bean infused cupcakes.

And we added some pastel sprinkles to make it extra floral and spring-y.

These cupcakes are nothing short of elegant. And, Food & Wine Magazine has some pretty amazing things to say about the cupcakes (and us) too.

“Having pre-portioned, perfectly-measured ingredients really can turn you into a better baker, allowing you to focus instead on enjoying the process and practicing new techniques.”

— Rebekah Lowin, Food & Wine

We hope the next time you’re on the North Fork of Long Island, you’ll stop by Lavender by the Bay. And that you’ll get a chance to try these pastel beauties soon.

Here’s to Spring!
